Planmeca Romexis® CAD/CAM is a brand new module for Planmeca Romexis software, which makes working with digital impressions easier and faster than ever before. The module streamlines the scan-and-send workflow for capturing, analysing and exporting digital impressions.
The new module combines the functions of previous CAD/CAM and Romexis® Model Analyser modules. As a result, intraoral scanning, dental analyses and transferring the scans to partners are done conveniently in a single module with a unified user interface.
In the new CAD/CAM module, different steps of the workflow are organised in separate functional tabs. The module currently includes the following tabs:
After the user has selected an existing patient or added a new one in Romexis, they can proceed to scanning digital impressions on the Scan tab of the CAD/CAM module.
With the new module, it is extremely easy to start a new case. The user can simply choose a workflow-oriented scanning pre-set, such as non-restorative, restorative or pre-op, which automatically sets up the scan types needed for that workflow.
The new scan engine of the software recognises the oral anatomy faster than before, making intraoral scanning with Planmeca Emerald® and Planmeca Emerald® S even easier. In the new module, models are generated only after everything is scanned, which reduces the overall scanning time and thus improves the scanning experience for patients and users alike.
Animations for suggested scan patterns help beginners to start scanning – no prior scanning experience needed.
Workflow Wizards have now also been added to Romexis CAD/CAM module. The module includes wizards for several functions with tutorial videos and active buttons.
A new scan group functionality allows users to add an unlimited number of different scan types to a case by clicking on the plus sign under Groups and selecting the desired scan type(s), for example another bite (open/closed), a wax-up or a scan body scan for a dental implant case. This opens up unlimited possibilities for intraoral scanning.
The new module also introduces an option for buccalless scanning, allowing the users to capture the occlusion in full arch cases accurately without an actual buccal scan.
When a buccal scan is performed, the software automatically aligns the scan models. If there is a need to optimise the alignment, users can select the new Refine alignment tool and let the software calculate the alignment or adjust it manually.
The scanning experience can now be tailored for each dental practice since the new module allows selecting the sound for capturing data. Users can choose the sound from a music library or use their own music to replace the standard clicking sound.
Once everything is scanned, the Trim model tool helps cut unnecessary data fast and precisely. Erase, Invert and Delete tools can also be used for trimming the model.
The shade assistant now includes the possibility to display multiple shade labels on the dental model.
The new module also supports the Planmeca Cariosity® scanning tip.
On the Margin tab, it is now possible to mark the margin lines for both upper and lower jaw at the same time. The new module also features an improved tool for marking the margin line, which makes editing the margin line easier and faster. Furthermore, a restoration insertion axis can be set to detect undercuts. All functions are guided by the Workflow Wizards.
The Analyse tab includes the same functions as the Romexis Model Analyser module in previous Romexis versions. Using the tab, users can view or erase scans, show several bites in a new object browser,
make measurements and analyses (Bolton and Space), view the occlusion heat map and compare scans captured at different times for example for treatment follow-ups.
With the new Romexis CAD/CAM module, users can now create solid and hollow bases for 3D printable models with only a few clicks.
The brand-new Send tab streamlines the scan-and-send workflow of Planmeca Emerald and Planmeca Emerald S users. The tab is dedicated for case management and includes a list with all the CAD/CAM cases of the patient. Users can select a case or individual scans they want to send, launch, export or create laboratory order forms for simply by clicking on a button. If a case in the list is double-clicked, the case opens on the Analyse tab.
The new module introduces updates to the creation of lab order form, including:
• New indication selections: Aligner, surgical guide, denture, implant crown
• New material selections: e.max, zirconia, PMMA, cobalt-chrome, titanium, glass ceramics
• Possibility to select the entire upper or lower jaw
• Improvements for bridge definition
• Workflow and UI improvements
• Implant dialog improvements
Digital impression data in STL or PLY format can be imported directly to the module e.g. for viewing , comparison or analysis.
The export options include:
• STL and PLY file formats
• Planmeca PlanCAD Premium format
• exocad format
• 3Shape format
Scans can also be sent to external services, including:
• Romexis Cloud
• DDX Cloud
• TruAbutment custom-abutment service
• HeySmile clear aligner service
The scans can also be directly launched into Planmeca PlanCAD® Premium and Romexis® 3D Ortho Studio modules by simply clicking on a button. A generic launch button for 3rd party service portals can also be added from the Admin settings.
The Romexis CAD/CAM module runs in macOS operating systems, but scanning and marking the margin line can only be performed with Windows operating systems. Consequently, the Scan and Margin tabs are not visible on macOS. However, the Analyse and Send tabs can be used in macOS.
If a customer prefers working on macOS, they can use a setup in which the scanning is done on a Windows laptop while the scans are viewed, analysed and shared on a macOS computer. This is achieved by connecting the Romexis macOS and Windows clients to the same server in a network installation.
The server can run on either Windows or macOS computer.
Romexis CADCAM module for macOs only includes the following tabs:
• Analyse
• Send
NOTE!
Romexis 6.4 should not be sold to customers who design and manufacture dental restorations chairside with Planmeca PlanCAD® Easy software and Planmeca PlanMill® milling units. They should continue to use Romexis 6.3 until the design and manufacturing functions are fully integrated into the new CAD/CAM module in future Romexis versions.
